As many of you know from some of my posts, I am looking for films to help get produced and to distribute. I have been placing ads and 2 days ago this guy came to me with a vague reply. After pushing for more info, it became obvious that he was after neither but wanted us to invest money for advertising the film which already had distribution. I tried to explain that was not what we do. Somehow this escalated, due to his pushiness, into a battle, with him attacking my credibility because I am an effects artist and not a producer, and because I work on low budget films, and because he thinks he knows more about how the industry works, which may or may not be true, but at the end of the day does not matter.

Why do people have to be like this? He could not grasp why we did not want to get involved in him "unique golden opportunity" and would not relent, and then accused me of showing disdain.

The only people I have ever met like this are director/producers. I am not saying they are all like this, but seriously, what is the point? Why could it not be "hey look, I get it, you guys are not looking for advertising situations, best of luck with your venture and thank you for taking the time to hear me out on my situation." That could have been the end of it.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrr, really irritates me. I am not new to this biz, and I know a bit about how the market works. There will always be someone who knows more, but why do they insist are yelling me into the ground to prove it?

I know I also posted something about a documentary film maker that was similar, but I felt this was a slightly different situation.

Do any of you guys have similar experiences?

Don't let idiots like that get you down. Clearly, he needs you more than you need him, otherwise he wouldn't have contacted you or have gotten so upset that you weren't willing to give him money. He can claim that he knows how the business works, but obviously he doesn't if he's contacting the wrong person for ad dollars and then burning a bridge because he was wrong.

Nature breeds morons, unfortunately. All the rest of us can do is shrug them off and keep going. :)

People get into hard sales technique when they can't get money for their projects.

And for someone who claims to know how the business works, one would think that he would have allotted some of his budget toward marketing, just like the major studios do. It's one thing to make the movie, but it is a rather useless enterprise if you can't get it out into the wilderness to be seen.

Yeah, I am sure you guys are right. I finally got him to calm down and chill. But the bite your head off thing is starting to get a bit old.

Especially, as you guys point out, I can help him more than he can help me.

Seriously, people are weird sometimes. Makes you wonder.....

From what I read in your posts, I think it is safe to assume that you are reliable, knowledgeable, and professional. Don't let these guys phase you.

If there was a like button on here I would of pressed it! You hit the nail right on the head.

I live by a saying tho "Never let the bastards get you down", and for that reason I would advise you to do the same. And in any case youve learnt a vital lesson from him in how not to approach people.

And the fact being that hes approaching the wrong people speaks volumes about the way he goes about his business as most independent producers barely have the funds to launch their own productions, let alone get caught up in other peoples that are most way up the ladder!
