5th SOTAMBE Documentary Film and Arts Festival

18-Sep-2018- 22-Sep-2018. Copperbelt Province, Kitwe, Zambia

SOTAMBE Documentary Film and Arts Festival (SOTAMBE DFAF) is an event held annually in the month of September with the main aim to educate and raise awareness on social issues through film and arts in Zambia.

The 5th SOTAMBE Film Festival in 2018 is organised under the theme “These are the Days – Celebrating a Zambian Filmmaker”.

This is in keeping with and celebrates the developments taking place in the Zambian Film Industry. The Government approved the Film Policy in 2017 and is working on establishing film schools. The Government is in full swing implementing the digital migration process from an analogue platform in order to increase broadcasting capacity.
Both private and national media houses will demand more and quality local content which will increase opportunities for the local film production houses and the consequent increase in employment. Zambian filmmakers therefore need to be prepared to meet these opportunities.

This five day annual event consists of documentary movie screenings which are followed up with panel discussions targeting mainly students from colleges and universities, as well as screenings of locally produced movies that are followed by discussions with the producers and directors on challenges they faced during the production process.

Apart from the screenings and panel discussions, which are core to the festival, SOTAMBE DFAF offers great educational, skills training and entertaining additional programmes such as Art workshop for children, a tree planting programme at various schools, “Business of Filmmaking in Zambia” – an entrepreneurship conference and Three Days Outdoor Screenings.

Film festival is open to all upcoming and established filmmakers and film enthusiasts from all over the world.
